ADOLF HITLER SPOTTED IN ALIA INTL AIRPORT IN AMMAN
Adolf Hitler's anti-Semitic manifesto was spotted at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman.
Looking for your next airport read? Flying through Jordan? Though it might make you cringe, it's possible to pick up a copy of Mein Kampf at a popular British bookstore there.
It sounds a bit strange, but large multinational British bookseller WH Smith was spotted recently selling Adolf Hilter's anti-Semitic manifesto Mein Kampf at its branch at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman.
The book was spotted by Saul Sadka in WH Smith's Bestseller's section. From Britain, Sadka relocated to Israel and he was flying through the airport in November.
Sadka was shocked when he saw the Arabic version of the book on the shelves of such a well-known British company.
While the English translation of the book, which inspired the Nazi fervor behind the Holocaust, is sold by WH Smith online, it is generally a taboo in developed countries to sell the racist book at physical stores, of which the company has 1,300 around the world. Controversy arose, for example, when a German institute decided in February to begin reprinting the book for historic and educational purposes. It had been banned in the country since the end of World War II.
But, throughout the Middle East the Arabic translation of Mein Kampf is still widely read.
